On Friday, June 24, 2016, The S.T.R.I.V.E Choraleers went to the ARC to sing to the residents there. The residents there had lots of fun listening and dancing to the songs that the S.T.R.I.V.E Choraleers sang to!

  Shelly's dad's birthday June 29, 2016  

Choraleers performed a VERY special birthday last Saturday. Shelly's dad celebrated his 90th birthday at the American Legion in Sterling. The family asked the Choraleers to participate. Shelly sang "Close to You" to her dad. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. The Choraleers enjoyed entertaining everyone. Shelly's family is WONDERFUL!!

On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, The S.T.R.I.V.E. Choraleers went to Sterling Pavilion Nursing home to sing again. The residents at the nursing home had a lot of fun singing and dancing along with us. They had so much fun with us that at the end of our performance, they even sang "Jesus Loves Me" to us. We had a lot of fun! Way to go Nancy and the S.T.R.I.V.E Choraleers!

Choraleers have started their new season. We had a wonderful time performing at Good Samaritans Nursing Home in Prophetstown. The people there were wonderful. It is fun to be back on the road!

My name is Tarik Hurt and I am part of a wonderful choir called the S.T.R.I.V.E. Choraleers.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself…

Tell me about your favorite TV shows and songs.
My favorite TV shows are on the Hallmark channel, the Lifetime channel, and any sports channel.
My favorite songs are "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts, "I Won't Let Go" by Rascal Flatts, and "God Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts
What were your favorite school subjects?
My favorite school subjects were Gym, Social Studies, and Math.
Tell me about your favorite teacher.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Gun because he was funny and fun to be around at all times.
Tell me some of the places you've been the happiest.
The places that I have been the happiest were ICRE - R and S.T.R.I.V.E. because they have always been my second home away from home.
Who are some of your heroes?
My heroes are Michael Jordan, Martin Luther King Jr. and Michael Jackson.

Nichole Russ is one of my very good friends because I have lots of things in common with her.

The places where I have been the happiest are at camp and at home with my family.
Who are some of your heroes?
My parents are my heroes because they have always been there for me. They are a big inspiration and they have positively affected who I am today.

Ms. Schellberg was my favorite teacher because she always took the time to explain things to me because of my disability.
Tell me some of the places you've been the happiest.
I am the happiest when I go on vacation with my family.
Who are some of your heroes?
John Cena is one of my heroes because he never gives up. Paul Walker was also one of my heroes because he gave to charity and less fortunate people in the world.

Dayna Johnston is one of my best friends because I feel like I can talk to her about anything.

I was the happiest when I was in Florida with my family.

My sister Kathy most influenced me because she was like a second mother to me; she taught me my numbers and alphabet when I was younger.

My favorite school subjects were Math, Science, and sewing.

Matt is my god brother who lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Tanya and daughter Ariel. They have always been there for me.

The one place I have the happiest is S.T.R.I.V.E. because if it were not for S.T.R.I.V.E. I don't know where I would be!

My oldest relative in my family was my Aunt Mary. She was very nice, loving and caring to my family and other people around her.

My favorite school subjects were spelling and history.

The places that I have been the happiest are being at S.T.R.I.V.E. and on outings.

What was the best day of your life?
The best day of my life was when I moved into S.T.R.I.V.E. to live and met new friends.
Who was the persons who influenced you and how?
It would have to be my mom and dad because they have always been there for me through the good and bad times in my life.

My favorite songs are "Tumbler", "Let it go", and "Go Away Little Girl". My favorite movies are "Dolphin Tale 1 and 2", "The Notebook" and "Frozen". My favorite T.V. Shows are "Untold stories of the E.R.", "Little Couple", and "Birthdays".
How did your family celebrate the holidays when you were a child?
My family would get up early Christmas morning and open presents around the tree.
What were your favorite school subjects?
Math and History

The places that I am the happiest are going on my outings. When I am with my family and friends and when I am chillin' in my room with my roommate.
Who are some of your heroes?
My heroes are my mom, my dad, my brothers, and my sister.
What was the best day of your life?
The birth of my nephew Mason because after he was born I found out I was going to be his godmother.

My name is Madeeya Stovall and I am part of a wonderful choir called the S.T.R.I.V.E. Choraleers.
I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy.
I live in a 16 bed home called S.T.R.I.V.E. in Prophetstown , IL

What is your background?
I come from the Southside of Chicago. I lived at La Rabida Children's Hospital for 4 years and then came to live with the Umanos Family. I have a mom, Jan Schuitema, and two brothers, Ben and Laydon. My mom is a teacher. Ben is a police officer. Laydon doesn't know what he wants to do yet ... LOL.
How did your family celebrate the holidays when you were a child?
My family would get up early Christmas morning and open presents around the tree.
What were your favorite school subjects?
Math and History
Tell me about your favorite teacher.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Brush because he always had a kind word to say to me. He would never let me give up on myself.
Tell me about some of your friends.
Crystal Epting is a girl that grew up with me and with whom I went to high school. She now lives in Washington D.C.and is happily married. She has a baby named Jefferson. Crystal Thomas is a girl that I met while living in a rehabilitation center called ICRE- R in Chicago. She has Cerebral Palsy too.
Is there a choir experience you are most proud of?
Yes, when I sung the song "I Gotta Believe".
